Gym Etiquette

 The panoramic landscape of gym-going has drastically changed over the years.


From the old bakal gyms to modern equipment, from no-phones-allowed to all smartphones seen, from forming friendships and social interactions to growing your ego and pride.


Ganoon na talaga ngayon.


And man has no choice but to adapt to these changes.


Here are some tips that might help you along:


10. Mindset is powerful. Always bring your A-Game. Understandable, tao lang tayo. Sometimes we just force ourselves to exercise. It happens. But at the very least, be comfortable being uncomfortable. That`s how you cultivate strong will and discipline.


9. Leave your Ego at home. Walang espasyo ang gym para sa mga egocentric maniacs who think they own the world. Buhatin ang kayang buhatin. Do your research. Andaming available resources for you. Avoid sports-related injuries because  ,,you think you know better" attitude.


8. Hygiene is of utmost importance. Mga kuya, ligo ligo rin pag may time ha. Magsipilyo na rin pagkatapos. Idagdag mo na ang pabango at deodorant. Remember: Your hygiene speaks a lot about how you take care of yourself.


7. Minimize phone usage. Good gracious. You are not there to update your Instagram or upload your photos in Facebook. Keep your phones in your lockers or in your pockets. Pero besh, wag namang isang oras ka na sa bench press dahil sa kaka-Whatsapp mo. May gusto ring gumamit niyan.


6. Sanitize when needed. Especially during warmer weathers, make it a habit to clean all surfaces where you have been. Pretty sure you would not want the same to be done to you.


5. Ibalik ang mga ginamit. I admit, isa ako sa mga minsan hindi gumagawa nito pero doon lang sa squat rack, kasi alam kong may susunod sa akin. All others I make sure I place them accordingly. Lying equipment can be a fall hazard.


4. Ask for help. Walang masamang humingi ng tulong; for advice on correct form or for spotting. Kung ano man iyan, I am sure that person would love to help you out. We uplift each other for the betterment.


3. Patience goes a long way. In this day and age, lagi tayong aligaga, nagmamadali at gusto nating magawa lahat ng sets of exercises. There are literally millions of exercises that can be performed not only using the cable machines or the benches. Hayaan mo yung naunang matapos. Bumalik ka na lang.


2. Respect goes longer. Alam kong gusto mong gamitin yung ginagamit na dumbbell. Alam kong gusto mong gamitin yung curl bars. Alam kong gusto mong gamiting yung Smith machine. Pero may gumagamit pa. If you asked them if you could switch in-between rests and they say ,,No", please respect their reply. The world nowadays is a wicked one. Would you make it more hateful just because?


1. Learn to love yourself. May mga panahong masyado tayong mapanakit sa ating sarili. You don`t see much development. You haven`t lost weight as you might have wished. You are doing great. Believe in yourself. Life is not a race. Your real competition is You. Consistency is key. Kaya mo iyan!
